Born in South Carolina, Fr. Steven Reeves moved to Louisville in 1993 along with his parents and younger brother. He graduated from Eastern High School in 2004 and from the University of Kentucky in 2008 with a major in mathematics. He was a high school math teacher at The Phoenix School of Discovery in Louisville for two years before returning to UK for a master’s degree in mathematics. In 2013, Fr. Steven was accepted as a seminarian for the Archdiocese of Louisville and began studies in philosophy and theology at Saint Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology in southern Indiana. He received a Master of Divinity degree from Saint Meinrad and was ordained a priest on May 25, 2019.
Fr. Steven is blessed to have been raised in a family centered around faith in Jesus Christ. He was baptized at Lakewood Baptist Church in Louisville, and his family remain faithful Baptists. The death of St. John Paul II in 2005 while Fr. Steven was in college sparked a curiosity about Catholicism that led in 2010 to his reception into the full communion of the Catholic Church and, three years later, to entering seminary to discern his vocation to the priesthood.
Fr. Steven’s parents currently live in Anderson, South Carolina; his brother Mark is completing a Ph.D. in history at the University of North Carolina. His extended family includes active or retired members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines, a former ballerina, a minor league baseball player, a helicopter pilot, a flight attendant, and an engineer at a nuclear power plant.
Fr. Steven is excited to begin his priesthood ministering to and serving alongside the people of St. Patrick and St. Boniface parishes. He looks forward to helping families, students, and parishioners of all ages live out their vocation as disciples of Jesus Christ called to holiness and mission. He hopes to enable many to experience the life-changing love of Jesus by proclaiming the words of Sacred Scripture, fostering authentic and caring community, and celebrating the sacraments of the Church, especially Reconciliation and the Holy Eucharist.
