Kathleen Nilsen is currently teaching sixth grade Science and Geography. Mrs. Nilsen and her husband Sean moved to Louisville 25 years ago from Arizona. She met her husband while attending Arizona State University and they relocated to Louisville so he could attend University of Louisville’s School of Law.
Mrs. Nilsen received her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Geography from Arizona State and worked in Arizona teaching Fifth Grade for two years. After moving to Louisville, Mrs. Nilsen worked on her Master’s in Education with an Emphasis in Economics while teaching in a variety of schools for the Archdiocese of Louisville for five years. She primarily taught 3rd-8th grade Social Studies and 4th-5th grade Science.
Mrs. Nilsen teaches 6th grade Science and Geography at St. Patrick. She enjoys using a hands-on approach to teaching using computers, learning centers and lab experiments. Mrs. Nilsen has introduced her students to creating there own inventions and promoting them through marketing, surveys and demonstrations for the 6th grade Invention Convention. She enjoys watching St. Patrick students debate global issues at KUNA and is proud of their continued effort to help the world community.
When not in the classroom, Mrs. Nilsen spends most of her spare time with her husband and five children as she attends many of their activities including diving, swimming, musical theater, dance, tumbling and scouts. She also enjoys historical fiction, scrapbooking, quilting and working with her youth church group.
